Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that bringing the “safe” foreign production vaccine developed against the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) to the country is among the government’s priorities.
According to Iranian state television, President Rouhani gave information about the procurement of Kovid-19 vaccines and the vaccination process in his speech at the National Combating Council meeting held in Tehran.
Stating that they have made significant progress in the production of the local vaccine candidate, procurement of vaccines from abroad is among the priorities of the government, “The government will provide all the necessary resources for vaccine production and purchase.” said.
Stating that they are trying to buy and bring a “safe” vaccine from outside the country, Rouhani stated that they are also struggling with the problems caused by the banking sanctions of the USA in this process.
Emphasizing the “safe” vaccine after Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei banned Western-produced vaccines from entering the country on the grounds that they are “unsafe”, Rouhani did not specify which vaccines were.
Explaining that they do not accept the requests of foreign companies to send vaccines to Iran, Rouhani said, “We could bring vaccines to the country before. Some foreign companies that produce vaccines have requested to send these vaccines to us to test them on our people, but the Ministry of Health has prevented this request.” he spoke.
Stating that they plan to start vaccination studies after the introduction of 16.8 million doses of Kovid-19 vaccine received through the World Health Organization, Rohani noted that approximately 1.3 million people, including high-risk people and healthcare personnel, will be vaccinated at the first stage.
Iranian leader Khamenei, in his speech published on state television yesterday, declared that American and British vaccines were banned from entering the country on the grounds that they were “unsafe”. Khamenei also stated that he did not trust France, which was involved in the “dirty blood scandal” that killed more than 400 people in 1985.
After Khamenei’s statement, the Iranian Red Crescent announced that the purchase of 150 thousand doses of Kovid-19 vaccine from Pfizer-BionTech company was canceled through Iranians in the USA.
In Iran, which is one of the countries with the worst epidemic in the Middle East, officials state that they have problems in obtaining the Kovid-19 vaccine due to the unilateral banking sanctions of the USA. Despite this, the cancellation of vaccines from Pfizer, saying “unsafe”, drew the reaction of Iranian social media users.
